The University of North Carolina Hospital provides lung transplantation as a treatment option for patients with incurable end-stage lung disease. Lung transplantation is not only a tremendous medical and surgical undertaking; it is also a huge financial burden. Many patients and families cannot afford the medication and treatments needed to sustain life after undergoing such a procedure.
The Sweet Melissa Fund was founded in January of 2005 in memory of Melissa Alexander, a vibrant young woman who lost her battle with cystic fibrosis during her lung transplant surgery. The Fund provides financial assistance to lung transplant recipients and their families.
We are a designated 501C-3 not for profit organization and all donations are tax deductible.
Thank you in advance for your support on behalf of all the patients undergoing this life-saving procedure.
